This collection brings together reproductions of Armand Guillaumin (1841–1927), a French painter and printmaker associated with Impressionism. Paris, the Seine, Crozant, the Creuse Valley, the Île-de-France region and the Mediterranean coast shape a body of work in which variations in light are expressed through increasingly intense colour.

Armand Guillaumin and the Impressionists

Guillaumin studied at the Académie Suisse, where he became friends with Camille Pissarro and Paul Cézanne. He exhibited at the Salon des Refusés in 1863 and later took part in the Impressionist exhibitions. His career remained closely associated with landscape, although his catalogue also includes portraits, nudes and still lifes.

His subjects encompass several geographical areas. Paris’s quays and industrial districts dominate his early years; the Creuse and Crozant later became essential, while Agay and the French Riviera introduced Mediterranean contrasts.

Paris, Bercy and the Banks of the Seine

Guillaumin painted a capital at work: quays, barges, bridges, sand depots and chimneys. Barges on the Seine brings together the water, vessels and riverbanks. The Bercy Quay belongs to the same urban and riverside setting.

These scenes do not focus solely on famous monuments. They observe areas of movement and the changing light on the water. Saint-Bernard Quay in the Snow shows how the season transforms the palette and atmosphere of a Parisian setting.

Crozant and the Creuse Valley

In Crozant, Guillaumin explored enclosed valleys, rocks, mills, bridges and rivers. Hoarfrost at Crozant conveys the cold through colour relationships rather than a simple range of greys.

Bouchardon Mill at Crozant makes it possible to compare architecture and terrain. Pont Charraud, the Ravine de la Folie, the Sédelle, Puy Barriou and the Génetin dam recur in several works, like a repertoire observed at different times of day and in different seasons.

Snow, Frost and Seasonal Change

The catalogue includes numerous snowy or frosty landscapes. Winter simplifies forms without removing colour: the shadows, vegetation and sky retain distinct hues.

The views of Crozant, the Sédelle and the Île-de-France region can form a seasonal series. They contrast with spring landscapes and sunsets while remaining part of the exploration of atmospheric effects.

Agay, Red Rocks and the Mediterranean

Guillaumin visited Agay on the French Riviera from the late 1880s onwards. Agay, Mount Vinaigre combines the landscape and colours of southern France. The red rocks, bay and semaphore inspire several variations.

Sailboat at Agay introduces the sea and a vessel. These Mediterranean landscapes differ from the scenes of the Creuse through their brighter light and stronger chromatic contrasts.

Île-de-France, Villages and Paths

Épinay-sur-Orge, Breuillet, Saint-Chéron, Damiette, Charenton and the Chevreuse Valley complete the artist’s geography. Landscape at Breuillet belongs to this group of roads, villages, meadows and waterside settings.

These rural subjects suit a quieter interior. To maintain a cohesive arrangement, group the works by season, landscape type or colour palette rather than by location only.

Portraits and Figures

Although landscapes dominate, Guillaumin also painted his family, close friends and himself. Self-Portrait offers a direct counterpoint to his outdoor views. The portraits of Madame Guillaumin and Madeleine Reading introduce more intimate interior scenes.

The nudes, the child eating soup and the artist at his easel demonstrate the diversity of his practice. In a gallery wall arrangement, these works can interrupt a sequence of landscapes and create a change of pace.

Still Lifes and Studies

Still Life with Apples provides an opportunity to observe his use of colour on a focused subject. Biscuits, brioches and other objects are arranged without the depth of a vast landscape.

The studies of skies, horses and rocks reveal close attention to a specific motif. They suit smaller formats or gallery walls combining several orientations.

Choosing a Guillaumin Reproduction

River panoramas and valleys work well in horizontal formats. Portraits, trees and certain landforms lend themselves to vertical presentation. Always check the image orientation and available dimensions on the product page.

For the poster option, the print is offered on 140 g paper with HD rendering at 150 DPI. Dimensions, canvas and framing options vary according to the artwork, format and destination. The product page displays the variants actually available.
