This historic photograph shows the LCVP PA13-22, attributed to the USS Joseph T. Dickman (APA-13), used for the landings at Utah Beach. In the foreground, soldiers of the 79th Infantry Division equipped with wide-mesh camouflage nets on their helmets, disembark between June 12 and 14, 1944. In the background, a Rhino Ferry loaded with ambulances and the LCI-489, which had departed Weymouth with soldiers of the 1st US Infantry Division for Omaha Beach, illustrate the logistical complexity of the days following D-Day.
These elements indicate a date after June 6, 1944, with a return to Falmouth on June 15. This image is a striking tribute to the organization and courage of the Allied troops. An invaluable historic piece for enthusiasts of the Normandy landings.
