Jāzeps Grosvalds (1891–1920) is one of the most influential painters of early 20th-century Latvian modernity. Trained in Paris and influenced by post-impressionist and symbolist currents, he developed a unique pictorial language where the rigor of composition meets the freedom of color. His travels, notably in Persia, Iraq, and Turkey, profoundly shaped his sensitivity. In Kurdes sur le toit, he expresses this fascination through a careful balance between exoticism and introspection, offering a rare window into a culture observed with respect and emotion. Each character seems suspended in the warm silence of an oriental afternoon, in a harmony of ochre, blue, and sandy tones.
This art print is ideal for enthusiasts of orientalist painting and poetic scenes. It fits equally well in a contemporary living room or a more classical interior, bringing a touch of escape and elegance. Grosvalds' work, still little known in France, deserves to be rediscovered: it embodies the meeting between artistic Europe and the millennial Orient, in a subtle and moving visual dialogue. Hanging Kurdes sur le toit at home is both inviting light and mystery, celebrating the beauty of a moment suspended through the gaze of a visionary artist.
