Where the right of withdrawal applies, contact us within 14 days of delivery. Return shipping is paid by the customer and the item must be sent to the European address provided by our customer service team. Damaged, defective or incorrect items are handled at our expense.

About Lumberjacks

Painted in 1841, Lumberjacks is an oil on canvas by Ignacy Gepner held by the National Museum in Warsaw. Three figures stand outside a timber building beside cut logs, placing the scene directly within the world of forestry work.

A vertical scene of working life

The pale figure on the left, the dark clothing of the central man and the woman’s green dress give the composition its rhythm. The broad open sky, earthy colours and wooden surfaces draw attention to everyday gestures, tools and materials.

Ignacy Gepner and genre painting

Ignacy Gepner (1802–1867) was a Polish painter and lithographer who studied painting with Aleksander Kokular. Alongside portraits, he produced genre scenes showing townspeople and tradespeople at work. Lumberjacks belongs to this close observation of occupations and ordinary life.
