About Rose and yellow rose button moth
This plate 24 by Maria Sibylla Merian comes from the first volume of Der Raupen wunderbare Verwandelung und sonderbare Blumen-Nahrung, published in 1679. It pairs a rose with the yellow rose button moth (Acleris bergmanniana).
From damaged bud to adult moth
Merian shows one caterpillar on a bud, another emerging from a still-closed flower and a small moth in flight. Opened and damaged buds record how the larvae feed from inside the flowers.
An observation built around the rose
The large bloom, buds at different stages and serrated leaves organise the engraving. By bringing together the insect, its development and its food plant, Merian turns a natural-history observation into a precise botanical composition.

Our frames measure 1.7 cm on each side. For a 40x60 cm painting, the total framed size is therefore 43.4 x 63.4 cm.
Canvas 100% polyester (285 g/m²), UV-resistant and solvent-free inks, safe for children and allergy sufferers. The canvases are mounted on a 2 cm thick wooden frame (4 cm for very large formats).
