A Poster for Peace is an American anti-Vietnam War poster created by Arthur Secunda around 1967–1968. The image carries the credit “The City by Arthur Secunda” and identifies itself as the first in a series published by Men and Women in the Arts Concerned with Vietnam. Because an accessible museum record has not confirmed a single production year, the date is deliberately stated as a range.
A compact city assembled from wheels, gauges, pipes and mechanical components fills nearly the entire surface in olive green, beige and black. Beneath this urban mass, blue lettering presents Martin Luther King Jr.’s criticism linking war abroad with the decay of American cities, including the line “The bombs in Vietnam explode at home.” King developed this argument in a speech delivered in Beverly Hills on 25 February 1967. Orange credits and the organisation’s name frame the quotation. The poster brings Secunda’s oppressive mechanical city and King’s words together as a political appeal for peace.
